A Free Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Workshop for Teens
Mondays 
3:30pm — 4:30pm

Summary

Is your mind full? Don't stress. Mindfulness for Teens is a 6-week series program to learn skills that are easy, fun, and you can take with you anywhere, or at anytime. Mindfulness based approaches will be practiced through daily activities that include eating, music, & movement. Formal practices such as short sitting meditation, body scan meditation, and metta practices will also be explored. This series is for any teen who experiences stress, anxiety, depression, or other things that may be keeping your mind too full. Yoga will not be a component of this series.To learn more or to register, please contact VTCYT at 658-9440. This series is closed to new participants. Please check back for future program dates!

Schedule

March 5: What is Mindfulness?
A working definition of mindfulness will be created, areas of where mindfulness can be applied will be identified, and students will begin an introductory practice.

March 12: Mindful Eating
Mindfulness will be explored through eating various foods.

March 19: Mindfulness & Music
Students will apply acquired mindfulness skills while listening to music and take notice of experience with curiosity and openness.

March 26: Mindful Movements
Various movements such as walking, tai chi, and free movement will be practiced.

April 2: Body Scan
Students will be guided through a body scan meditation to further develop curiosity and awareness.

April 9: Metta Practice & Group Closing
Series will end with metta (loving kindness) practices to open the heart and develop compassion for one’s self and for others.

For teens (ages 14-19) who experiences stress, anxiety, and/or depression. Or for those who have a general curiosity of mindfulness, themselves, and the world around them.

About Catherine Schiller

Catherine Schiller is a graduate level mental health counseling intern here at the Vermont Center for Yoga and Therapy. Catherine is currently a student in Southern New Hampshire University's program in community mental health. Catherine is interested in exploring how alternative modalities can accompany traditional ones in psyhotherapy. She currently has high interest in bringing mindfulness meditation as a primary modality of therpeutic intervention and is also learning the Internal Family Systems model (IFS). She hopes to bring both of these elements to her current and future work as a mental health professional. Catherine has been practicing mindfulness meditation for 5 years and practices in group and retreat settings whenever possible.

Catherine currently facilitates the Mindfulness for Teens and Mindful Parents groups and also meets with individuals for mindfulness meditation instruction and psychotherapy. Catherine works with children, adolescents, parents, and adults.
